Statistical approach to quantum phase estimation

چکیده

We introduce a new statistical and variational approach to the phase estimation algorithm (PEA). Unlike traditional iterative PEAs which return only an eigenphase estimate, proposed method can determine any unknown eigenstate-eigenphase pair from given unitary matrix utilizing simplified version of hardware intended for Iterative PEA (IPEA). This is achieved by treating probabilistic output IPEA-like circuit as proximity metric, using this metric estimate input state nearest approaching via process on phase. may search over entire computational space, or efficiently eigenphases (eigenstates) within some specified range (directions), allowing those with prior knowledge their system particular solutions. show simulation results Qiskit package IBM Q platform local computer.

Statistical Approach to Quantum

A Monte Carlo method is used to evaluate the Euclidean version of Feynman's sum over particle histories. Following Feynman's treatment, individual paths are defined on a discrete (imaginary) time lattice with periodic boundary conditions. On each lattice site, a continuous position variable xi specifies the spatial location of the particle. Using a modified Metropolis algorithm, the low-lying e...

Quantum information approach to quantum phase transitions

Quantum phase transitions of a many-body system at zero temperature are characterized by the change of the ground state properties as model parameter g in the system Hamiltonian H(g) is varied across the transition point. People think that structures of the ground-state wavefunction become qualitatively different across the transition point. That is, if we calculate the fidelity, a concept emer...

Optimal quantum phase estimation.

By using a systematic optimization approach, we determine quantum states of light with definite photon number leading to the best possible precision in optical two-mode interferometry. Our treatment takes into account the experimentally relevant situation of photon losses. Our results thus reveal the benchmark for precision in optical interferometry. Although this boundary is generally worse th...

A Quantum Approach to Classical Statistical Mechanics

We present a new approach to study the thermodynamic properties of d-dimensional classical systems by reducing the problem to the computation of ground state properties of a d-dimensional quantum model. This classical-to-quantum mapping allows us to deal with standard optimization methods, such as simulated and quantum annealing, on an equal basis. Consequently, we extend the quantum annealing ...

An Approach to Quantum Statistical Mechanics

We start the discussion of the free Bose gas on Robertson-Walker space-times by introducing a new state on the Weyl algebra of the free massive Klein-Gordon eld on Robertson-Walker space-times. This state approximates a thermal equilibrium state and opens the possibility to do quantum statistical mechanics on expanding universes. We explain why this state is believed to be a physically relevant...
